The twelfth sermon in our series; “Encounters”
This week’s scripture: Matthew 21:1-11
During Holy Week (the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, the last week before the resurrection of Jesus Christ) the crowds were intentionally present in the gospels. On Palm Sunday the crowds cheered for Jesus as he entered Jerusalem. On Good Friday, the crowd demanded that Jesus be crucified.
Crowd pressure is all around us. Advertising, social media, television, news, sports, politics, religion, etc. often can seek to influence us. How can we work our way through the pressure and come to a right decision that we can handle with God’s help?
Pause – Don’t be swayed by pressure situations. If someone is pressuring you to do something NOW, be wary.
Stand – Trust God more than people, even groups of people. Don’t be influenced by everyone else doing something. Seek God. What would Jesus do?
Introspection – Know yourself. Take time every day to reflect on the essential things in your life. Have a personal mission statement.
Community – Center yourself in a group of friends that support you in your Christian values and God’s path for your life.
